This is my way to document life as I know it. Some days it may be boring, entertaining, or just plain crazy, but that is who I am.

Sequestration
I was hoping my husband could escape the sequestration hits, but his squadron is now feeling the effects. His original wing date was in July. That is no longer happening. Due to budget cuts, they can only operate training at half capacity. This means students could be delayed up to 6 months. This is very frustrating for them. They are working so hard, and they are so close to finishing only to be told that they will be slowed down. My husband started his training in June of 2011. He may not wing until October of 2013. The time on his contract does not start until he wings which means he will put in 2 1/2 years (if you count from the start of OCS) before his contract even starts. I feel bad for him. He is so ready to be a winged aviator and get out into the fleet. I am ready to get the hell out of Texas. The positive is he still receives a paycheck so I guess I can't complain too much.

:( That is such a bummer!!!
ReplyDeleteOmg! That's awful! Especially about the time towards his contract. I hope the rest of the time goes more smoothly for you!
ReplyDeleteThough my hubby in the military he does work for the government. We were moved 1/2 way across the country with the hopes we'd get to go back home in no more than 5 years. With the sequestration we'll most likely be stuck here for longer than the 5 years.
ReplyDeleteI'm so frustrated because I don't want to put my kid in the school system here, and I don't want to HAVE to put him in private school, simply because the public school is so terrible and I'm left with no other option.
As you pointed out, we're still getting a paycheck (and so far no furloughs), so we have to be grateful for that.
Wow that is just insane! I can't imagine how frustrating that must be!
ReplyDeleteDang, that's rough.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! My husband is an instructor in a training command and I heard they're not taking any more student pilots for awhile, but I hadn't realized what was happening to the students they do have. I'm so sorry you guys are stuck in this!
ReplyDeleteThey are pushing the primary students through, but the advance students are going to slow down. Luckily, he hasn't slowed down yet, but he thinks once he finishes this block of flights he may be slowed. I just feel so bad that his winging may be delayed.
DeleteOh my gosh. That sucks. I can imagine you're ready to leave TX. That was always on our please-don't-ever-make-us-go list.
